The curriculum is incredibly diverse, from initial improvisation lessons to practical ensemble classes, and later courses in harmony, composition, and arrangement, as well as a wide range of lectures and workshops. As the demand for jazz grows, our training content becomes increasingly rich. Participants range from members of traditional Chinese string and bamboo ensembles to skilled musicians from traditional, classical, and popular music fields , as well as music lovers of all ages.

 

In 2009, Sizhukong moved to its current location in Bandung. With its own base, it was able to plan its teaching more comprehensively, and its teaching staff became stronger. In addition to Sizhukong erhu and percussionist Zheng Jun and bassist Martijn Vanbuel, who also taught classes, between 2009 and 2015, many outstanding musicians who had just returned from studying in Europe and the United States, including Cheng Jie, Su Shengyu, Zeng Zengyi, Huang Weijun, Xu Yuying, Ye Hepu, Pan Hengjian, Chen Yingda, Deng Yijun, Xie Mingyan, and others, also joined the teaching team. At a time when jazz was not yet widely accepted in academic institutions, the Sizhukong training program provided Taiwan with top-notch teachers to connect with European and American teaching systems, filling a gap in Taiwan's jazz education.

 

As time has passed, some of the students nurtured by jazz here have returned to their musical fields with a new perspective, some have found a hobby that will accompany them for a long time, some have gone abroad to further their studies and found their own path in Taiwan or abroad, and some have returned to the Sizhukong (a traditional Chinese music venue) to continue to pass on the torch of jazz teaching. Even with the need to part with countless precious photos, we hope that you, with your keen eye, can still piece together the clues of this history from these limited images.
